Performance Benefits

Turrino alloy wire wheel rims are typically 3-5KG lighter than steel equivalents

Acceleration – Is significantly improved due to the reduced rotational moment of inertia. A 4Kg saving on each rim (16Kg per car) will have the same effect on acceleration as lightening the car by 80-160kg! The rule of thumb is that each 1kg saved at the rim equates to 5-10Kg of static (car) weight. Remember – the moment of inertia is a product of the mass x the square of the radius so the bigger your wire wheel diameter & the wider the rim – the more you gain.

Steering – More precise steering input & better turn-in due to significantly reduced gyroscopic effect of a directional change.

Road Holding & Handling – Reduced un-sprung weight means the spring/damper combination works more effectively to keep the tyres in contact with the road. This is why alloy rims have been used on all top line competition and sports car since the 30’s.

3 Piece Rim Range

Since these are modular we can make all sizes from 10 inch – 22 inch diameter and 5 – 14 inch width.

Wheel Centres

All types and sizes can be fitted to Turrino wheels including Bolt-on and Peg-drive types which we can design if necessary.
Most of our Rudge Whitworth style splined centres are forged in carbon or stainless steel, but the larger and more unusual sizes are machined from steel billet in our workshops.


All wheels can be built to any offset which is mechanically feasible. Please ask.

This drawing serves for most wheel types but we can send an appropriate drawing as required for other wheel designs. This shows the BACKSPACE ‘C’

What is Wheel Offset?

Offset of a vehicle’s wheel is the distance between the center line and the plane of the hub-mounting surface. It can be either positive or negative. Offset has a significant effect on many elements of a vehicle’s suspension, including suspension geometry, clearance between the tire and suspension elements, the scrub radius of the steering system, and visually how the wheel sits in relation to the bodywork.

Zero Offset – The plane of the hub mounting surface is even with the center line of the wheel.

Positive Offset – The plane of the hub mounting surface is shifted from the center line toward the front or outside of the wheel. Positive offset wheels are generally found on front wheel drive cars and newer rear drive cars.

Negative Offset – The plane of the hub mounting surface is toward the back or brake side of the wheel’s center line.

Spoke Lacing Pattern

We will copy any original lacing pattern or will advise what else is possible to give added strength & rigidity if required.

The offset and width of the rim determine whether it is possible to have spokes laced into the outer, centre or inner part of the rim or a combination of the three. We will be pleased to advise.

Conversion Kits

Can be supplied or designed to fit our wire wheels to almost any car.


Each wheel is hand built to exacting standards. Turrino alloy rim wheels have been tested by the Motor Industries Research Association (MIRA) to British Standard BS A50. The tests simulate a 2 tonne car travelling 100,000 miles, covering radial and cornering fatigue & crash tests. We have also tested wheels to the more exacting TUV loadings although there is not actually a TUV protocol for centre lock wheels.
